Le Praz (Courcheval 1300)

Latitude: 45.43047
Longitude: 6.62575

Aire/Campsite details:

New for 2012/13 season.

I'm sorry to be the bringer of bad tidings regarding this previously fantastic aire. The Authorities have put a height restriction barrier on this car park and locked up the Flot Bleu!

Its probably due to the amount of seasonnaires that were using it in their converted trucks. Apparently the Seasonnaires have now parked their trucks in the car park at the bottom of the Ski Jump and are refusing to move!

There used to be motorhomes parked up at 1500 last season and I don't know as yet whether the authority plan to re-allocate (perhaps paid) motorhome parking anywhere but I've yet to toddle over and investigate. I was planning to spend March April there this year. There is about six places in La Tania just round the corner but that is already full of Seasonnaires.

Thanks to Paul Million for the update re the parking

Restricted free overnight parking in large public car park. On the road to Courcheval 1850 drive through Le Praz village past lift station on right, uphill to Medical Centre on left. Turn left to car park. Flot Bleu 2 euros. Ski back to Aire and also down to village and lift station, depending on snow conditions (10 minutes walk to lift station). Public notice at Flot Bleu stating restriction of maximum 48 hour stay. May be put into force depending on time of year or amount of Motorhomes as car park also used for coaches. Access to large forest area with footpaths.

Resort details:

Le Praz (Courchevel 1300) is a small pretty village with, amongst others, a small supermarket, restaurants, ski shops, a post office and still has the feel of a real village more than a resort.

Skiing details:

Courchevel is part of 'Les 3 Vallees' which is the largest interlinked resorts area in the world with 600 kilometres of marked pistes plus unlimited off-piste terrain. With so many pistes and off-piste terrain you could ski or snowboard 'Les 3 Vallees' for weeks and still not cover it all.

There are pistes to suit all abilities and special areas specifically for beginners where the pistes are very well groomed and less crowded.

There are 2 bubble lifts, located near the small lake, that take skiers up to 1850 and on to 2000 in less than 10 min. giving access to not only all the runs in the Courchevel area but also access into the other valleys for Meribel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens.

There are snow cannons meaning you can ski back to 1300 almost all season.

You can purchase ski passes for only the Courchevel valley or for the whole of 'Les 3 Vallees' area. The passes are also 'hands free' providing automatic access to the lifts without the need for manual checking by lift staff meaning smoother and quicker access to the lift.
