Les Carroz 1140m-2500m

Aire/Campsite details:

There is a Motorhome parking area opposite the main Kedeuse Gondola with free services and electric. There is a toilet in the Gondola station and a small bar. The toilet may close at night. There are spaces for 25 Motorhomes but as there is a large car park at peaks times they will overspill into it.

Update by Steve Pirnie

We visited this overnight parking area by the swimming pool complex in March 2010 ( Latitude: 46.02504,Longitude: 6.64419). The prices have increased to 10 euros a night! Although all facilities are available from the outside toilets at the adjacent swimming pool this is one of the least attractive Aire’s I have visited. N.B. Rather than use free ski bus we drove up to the main Gondola station which has a very large free car park.

UPDATE re Aire during winter

Yes there is an Aire open at the resort but not the one that appears in the Aire books. That only operates during the Summer season. when winter comes around they move the Motorhomes down to a car park by the summer swimming pool complex. There are about room for 20 vans and the charge is 3-50 Euros per night payable to the municipal police. There is a free ski bus which comes around every half hour so you can get to the telecabines. We went on they way to Les Saises just to see what the place was like. It is a 10 minute walk into the village from the Aire so not to be taken lightly carrying skis, poles and clumping along in ski-boots. There is very little skiing in the village so one has to take the chair lifts up another 6 or 7 hundred feet to get on the 'skiing Alpe' it then becomes part of the Samoens/ Morillion ski area which is all ok! if you move up the road for another 12 Km you get to Flaine. No motorhome stop that we could see but they do drive up for the day and park along with all the cars. I can say that we were not very impressed with the village or the set-up as compared with La Cluzaz or Grand Bornand or Les Saises. For really experienced Snowboarder or skier then it would be worth the effort. For families I don't think it is very good. The whole place smacked a little of a mini Chez Chamonix, quite a few Snowboarders in painted vans and coaches. It was a little like going back to Newquay in the eighties. you know bodies walking around under woolly hats and Rasta haircuts hanging down. German and Dutch I think. Oh and don't forget the prerequisite mangy dog! Not somewhere that I would go to again but each to his own. The village is clean and very picture postcard. We went after the French winter break so it wasn't very busy at all and to be fair we had just had two days of torrential rain which rather decimated the lower slopes and made it a bit down at heel. Somewhere to go if your single or just young adults I think.
