This small ‘French’ ski village is situated up near Les Gets but without the glamour!

Drive past Geneva on the A40-E25 and through Bonneville. Come off at junction 2 signed Cluses. Drive up into the mountains for Taninges. Take the D902 for Les Gets and after about 4 km turn left for Praz de-lys. This is quite a wiggly road but the bus goes up quite regularly. Follow the road to the left don’t go into the village. At the top of the hill, where the road cuts across the piste is a car park/aire on the left and a little farther on (100 metres) is another on the right. There is parking for about 50 vans. Water is available from the wooden toilets ( you need a funnel and 1 gallon water carriers) Grey water is emptied here as well ( we use a 2 gallon black plastic jerry container) and there is an emptying point for your toilet. Price is 35 cents a night payable to an old man in a booth (10-30—12-00) You can stay as long as you wish. The snowplough comes up after snowfalls each day and everyone lends a hand.

The altitude of the Aire is 1600 metres so it gets the snow early in the year and keeps it way into April if a bit slushy. You are right next to a green run that takes you down into the small village for provisions with a button lift to bring you back up. Ski passes are 20 euros a day but it is cheaper by the week. There is 2 green runs 6 easy blues and innumerable red and black. There is also 23 kilometres of Nordic tracks. We found the place absolutely charming. Mainly French, not a lot of anyone else really, it is a real gem. Some restaurants and bars but not a lot of nightlife. We loved it. Take a generator (1Kw is fine) as everyone uses them. No gas or fuel you have to give up your spot and drive down to Taninges. Don’t go at the weekend it is packed out as people travel from Geneva just for the day.
