Leave Gap heading north on the N85 towards Grenoble. After 4km turn right onto the D944 and then the D13 to Ancelle.

The village does not have a campsite or aire, but as is usual in France, no objection is made to campers parking overnight on the car park. We arrived in Ancelle around 6 o’clock one evening as the car park was being cleared. We were asked to wait a few moments whilst the plough cleared and levelled an area just for ourselves.

The village has a limited but adequate range of facilities. Adjacent to the parking area in Ancelle is a boulangerie and several cafes or bars. A few minutes walk away is the old village, very pretty and again with a small selection of restaurants and shops.

Skiing is accessible virtually from the door of your van.

For anyone wanting extensive or extreme skiing, or a wild après ski scene, this resort is best avoided. Weekends are also best avoided as the resort is accessible to the towns and cities of the Mediterranean coast. If however you can be self sufficient for two or three day’s midweek, Ancelle can offer some excellent easy/intermediate skiing with the slopes virtually to yourselves and at a cost of a third of some of the larger resorts.
