This is the 3rd review I have done for this rapidly growing website. The other two were two other resorts in Scotland that I have attended. We always like to get a bit of skiing in Scotland in before heading off for some proper Alpine skiing. So this time it was the turn of the CairnGorm Mountains. We stopped the night in the town of Aviemore using a little car park behind the post office and Aviemore ski and snowboard hire. No one complained and in fact if anything looked a bit surprised to see us.

So where do you stay? Well I simply parked our motorhome in the car park at the ski centre and that’s where it stayed for two days. The staff said there would be no problem with that at all. If you go back in to town in to Avimore there are public showers and somewhere to empty black waste. So enjoy it before it’s lost.

The resort of Aviemore looks like a proper ski resort. There are all the shops a skier would need for clothing etc. with the atmosphere of a Alpine resort. We were lucky enough to be covered in Snow the days we were here, this meant great skiing. As with all low lying resorts check the weather prior to travel, we had loads of trouble reaching Aviemore due to extreme road conditions on the way. I find this site http://www.winterhighland.info/ very useful for snow reports in Scotland and  this enables checking for adequate snow coverage.

On arriving at the Cairngorms ski resort I was pleasantly surprised. The skiing consists of many runs of all standards. In fact some of the blue runs with the occasional rock showing make them as difficult as an Alpine green. The lift passes were expensive but no dearer than anywhere else. The staff were friendly and even gave my youngest a ride in a snow mobile when his snowboard bindings broke. OK, so it’s not the Alps, but having said that, if your north of Birmingham and you can check the weather you can have a decent ski weekend very cheaply and within a 5 hour drive.
